Well, as if I need another project....
I have been thinking a lot lately about my 242 and how wonderful it is to have that sweet, sweet noise that comes from a 302. For a while there, I had this crazy thought about putting a B6304 in a '68 Valiant, but I have since come to my senses, decided to get that car back on the road and sell it. This would still leave me with a B6304 sitting there in the garage with a broken timing belt. I have yet to putll the head yet to see how bad the damage is, but the description I got of the breakdown leads me to believe it broke during a startup. This leaves me optimistic that the engine will be in good shape and can be a nice builder.
As I said before, the 302 is a great powerplant and I love the noise and brute power that it makes, but the car seemed to lose a little something when I did the swap. This could be due to the lack of a locking diff or the fact that I have a not-so-great transmission in it, but I don't ever feel inspired to take a road trip in it anymore.
Maybe it's the purist in me (I kind of hope this is the case) but I feel like the B6304 is a great candidate for this car to once again give it the refinement it deserves. And while I know it has been done somewhere, I can't recall a particular 240 that boasts the install of an inline 6. It seems that the 20 valve is the typical swap of choice these days but I can't help but to feel like the 24 valve has something to offer as well. Something about the thought of it makes me think of the term Grand Tourer.
It comes down to wiring. I don't care for the megasquirt option as much as I do a factory reliable tune, but I don't know if I want to use the 80+lb wiring harness from a 960 to make it run either.
Well, there are my thoughts out there 'on paper' so to speak. Man I really need to get this Valiant out of the way now....
