Turbo Meltdown

I bought a car on the cheap from someone knowing that it wasn't making boost. It was a 1991 745. I took the intake hose off and the turbo was seized. I started investigating further and what I found after removing the turbo was shocking. The entire area around the wastegate on the hot side was melted down.

I will be watching for signs of a lean condition once I get this rebuilt 15g installed.

I've never seen one melt the entire housing.

I'd suspect a bad wastegate actuator to be the source of this destruction. But, I could be wrong.

I think I'd check the exhaust for blockage too.

Wouldn't hurt to look at the catalyst.

Although, I doubt it is the root cause; all of that liquified metal had to go somewhere, right?
