16V Turbo 242

I've thought about some other mounting solution, but I didn't really give it too much thought. Originally I wanted to very mount, but Nathan's manifolds won't fit. (I did a rough test fit).

I know these mounts are shorter than the factory ones. I have a right side diesel mount (the only one available now from Volvo). Then with this Yoshi mount on the left I'm hoping it will rotate the engine slightly to the driver side.

My manifold has two external gates. The pipe which connects the two, runs right along the frame rail. Even with both factory mounts, it was maybe 1/4-1/2" away from rail. A little too close for comfort.

I have a problem though. It lays with the pinion flange. It's in there, but only about half the threads of the nut actually engage. Everything on the pinion was the same, until the Thread- they're much shorter than the pinion which came out.

I'm thinking this 4.10 gear set came out of a 1041 diff and might possibly use a different flange? Does anyone know if there are different flanges? The one I need would have a deeper pocket for the nut?

Jordan

I had the same issue. The older pinions were threaded all the way to the end, the 1041 ones have a guide/snout on the end and a larger thread size. The flanges are identical, except the pocket being deeper.

The 4.10 set I bought came with the matching flange, but it had dings in the sealing surface from bouncing on the ring gear during shipping. I couldn't find a single one in the junkyards, so I polished the ding out. Hasn't leaked yet. http://www.forums.turbobricks.com/showpost.php?p=5381981&postcount=160

Those rimpz do look supasexy :)

What kind of thing is that hanging around the distributorhole on the auxshaft?

Yoshifab DSM CAS?

Thank you! So now I'm on the look out for one of these flanges. Were you not able to find any 1041, or were the 1041 you were looking at, not deep enough? If I remember Hiperfauto's PM correctly, he said the early cars shared the same flange, but the later 95+ cars had a different part number (possibly the deeper flange?)

Thanks. Yes that is the Yoshi adapter. Just need to find a sensor now.

I just couldn't find a single car with a 1041 while I was looking. If you see a rear end with a snout showing on the end of the pinion instead of threads, it should be the deeper one you need.

I didn't look at part numbers in VIDA for how many different flanges there were, but 240s used 3/8" bolts and nuts, 700/900 used 10mm bolts and nuts (not sure if later 240s use metric hardware). So it seems like there would be at least three different ones; standard/shallow, metric/shallow, metric/deep?

There is also the 1045/IRS locker, but that one is threaded for socket headed screws. I saw some of those, but didn't have tools to pull a driveshaft off of one to see if the depth would work.

It's hardened material, so machining it is probably not feasible.

I don't know if you can order from rockauto in Canada, but here's a brand new OE/Hyundai version with the pigtail instead of the plug on the body. http://www.rockauto.com/?mfr=AUTO+7&partnum=0410012

Thanks guys. The site said only 5 remaining, and not wanting to risk them running out, so I ordered one. Also ordered up the rear calipers I had been holding out on.

if you get the hyundai version and don't plan to cut the connector off, you need to make sure you get the correct harness connector to plug in.. it's not the same as the DSM one.

So, are my pictures still working? I haven't signed into my photobucket account, and so far they're still working. When they die, I'll fix it.

I still haven't found a flange for my pinion on the diff. Pretty sure I need one from a 95+ rear. If you're at the JY and you see a pinion that is NOT threaded to the end, that's the flange I need.

I'll start off with the car my apprentice bought. It's from California. I believe Nick built this car (I think his user name was trbo240? Something along those lines?). He sold the car to a friend of mine (geoff240ti) in Saskatchewan in about 2006. Geoff swapped it to LH2.4, put 1500km and started tearing it down to do the body. He never finished. Has a b230 block, 531 head, kgt2 cam, proturbo header from the old group buy, some Garret turbo, most of a T5 swap

Anyways, the way this helps me, is that it has a pair of tilting corbeau GT seats with mounting brackets. He's giving me these seats in exchange for helping him on the car, and storing the car. Score.

I got an R-sport cluster. I want to take out the tach and speedo and put some speed huts in place.

My wife's xc90 started knocking when she ran it out of oil.... Junk junkyard engine to begin with. Found an 07 xc90 V8 sport in red to replace it with. Got it for a steal to.

Last thing on the agenda. I have a friend building a rottiserie for the car. I'm going to scrape the under coating off before seam welding.

The dollar has sucked for buying (couple that with buying a new 90, a new lawn tractor, and a wedding in a couple weeks) I haven't been buying much.

Oh, got a JV fly wheel with a Kennedy pressure plate and matching disk for the T5.

And, I'm going to take stiggys advice. I'm going to build some buchka style engine mounts. I need to get my bare block/head/manifold in to start mocking it up.

Pictures will get added when I can figure out how flicker works.

Progress has slowed again. Got married last September. At the wedding my aunt from Germany let us know she was getting married in April. So we started saving for a trip.

Competed in Volvo's vista competition again. Got first place in Canada. So that means we will be competing in Sweden in June against the other #1s of the world.

Then a friend in the Volvo club here passed away. His family didn't know what to do with his two car garage full of parts. So now my project car is completely surrounded by parts. Hopefully this weekend I can get it all moved to various sheds.

Two weeks before our trip, the head gaskets in my truck let go (2013 chev LML duramax). Well if it's all coming apart might as well upgrade right?
Machined heads, head gaskets and ARP studs
CP3 pump conversion (cp4 is known to fail and cause a 10-20k repair bill)
Down pipe back exhaust (deleted)
EGR delete
5 position custom tuning (up to 200hp in top tune)

So needless to say, the car budget went to the truck. Doesn't mean I don't have stuff I can do to the car. Just means the last couple big purchases might be held off.

The only things big left to get are
EMS, fuel system (minus injectors and fpr), tires, revalve shocks/struts, and figure out paint (thinking Audi nimbus grey). I'd really like to start piecing the car together and test fitting things. All my suspension is por-15d. If I can get the garage cleaned out, hopefully I can snap some pictures of progress.

Always nice to see this one come back up, appreciate that you're taking your time but keeping the flame alive (not unlike Doug and the wagon).

figure out paint (thinking Audi nimbus grey).

I like the color but it is PLAYED OUT. I see so many nimbus VW's, it'd drive me kind of crazy to park next to a Corrado and have our cars be the same color..

I spend a lot of time looking at colors right now because of my truck project. I like it in primer so non-metallic grey is on my short list. EVERY manufacturer has their version right now. It is so trendy I'm already getting tired of it.

So. Not much in another year. Collecting parts again. Trying to find motivation to do something on the car.

My friend had some CCW's on his V70R he wanted to unload. He made me a deal I couldn't refuse. They're 18*8.5 front and 18*9.5" rear. I was hesitant because I think 18's look goofy on 240's. I put them up against the car, and I actually liked them. I'll try and get them to fit. Tires are 255's. Might go staggered 235 front and 255 rear.
Two need lips straigtened. One has a cracked barrel. Prices for the individual parts aren't bad.

As you can see, the garage is a MESS. I can't work in there. Which is part of the reason I haven't done much. I ended up with another parts collection. That's cleaned up now.

One day. I woke up to a new turbo.

GT3076 - Thanks Harlard.

The next one, is for Stiggy. You really had me thinking about engine mounts after the last post. So I broke down. Got some from the motherland.

Over the weekend, I found some motivation and started to get the rear diff into the car. Turns out my panhard rod is missing a spacer. Hopefully Ben e-mails me back so I can get a new one, and get the damn thing into the car.

Maybe now I can get some more motivation to do some more work.

I've sort of changed my EMS direction and am strongly considering a MaxxEcu and an electronic throttle body...

I also bought a set. Had Eric Olson bring them along to Seattle from Stockholm, then Trevor+ shipped them to me. Saved 90 Euros in shipping...

I want a set! They look great, certainly don't have to worry about them deforming or shearing off.

electronic throttle body ooOOOoo
