It's time to start a new thread for this car.
I've had it for almost a year. I'm graduating from college in a week, and starting a job that pays well enough to make this thing a project car.
Here it is the day I got it back home.

While cutting out the cat, I damaged the turbo, and it was smoking like crazy. One of the nuts on it was hella stuck, then rounded off. I had to get creative.

It was a tight place to weld, but it worked. I couldn't believe it.

Less than a week later, I loaded it up and moved 800 miles from Illinois to North Carolina.

Since then, its been a matter of keeping it moving forward on a microscopic college budget.
I don't have pictures, but since purchasing it, it has received:
  • Turbo
  • Plugs and wires
  • Fuel filter
  • Single in-tank Walbro 255
  • Distributor cap+rotor
  • Used ECU
  • Fuel sending unit
  • Tires
  • Fuel pressure regulator
I'm starting a new job in about 2 weeks, and I'll be able to give it the attention it needs.
It has two symptoms: (1) intermittent low power from about 2k-3k or so. (2) Intermittent cutting out with no perceivable pattern.
Also: CEL is on with a code for the fuel mixture rich/lean. Leanness seems the more likely possibility, especially given the color of the spark plugs, and the low fuel pressure-like hesitation.
My theories:
-The fuel hose diameter drops after the filter (its the original line), so that may reduce pressure. But I don't know why that wouldn't be continuous. Plus, I don't think its any smaller than the pickup pipe in the tank, and it also seems like the regulator should compensate.
-Fuel Injector problems, either wiring or cloggedness. I've soaked them in SeaFoam though, so I'm not sure. Noid confirms that they are getting signal, but its an intermittent issue, so who knows.
Here are the spark plugs.

I got some good advice from a guy on FB, and I'll be checking my O2 sensor next.
Here is the list of things to be done:
[x] Stage 0
[ ] Driveability problem
[ ] Leaking water pump seal
[ ] Sloppy steering
[ ] Cut springs
[ ] Wheels/Tires
[ ] Boost Gauge
[ ] Wideband
[ ] MBC
[?] 15g?
[?] LSD
[?] T5 Manual swap
[!?] VQ35+6mt Swap

Chicks dig 765?s.

They actually do. I use to to have a pretty slick Impreza 2.5RS coupe that I sunk a money into making it quick and look good. My absolute pride and joy.

This car has probably gotten 3x the compliments. Its easily my most complimented car by non-enthusiasts.

Careful of the FB guys, that place is noob central but entertaining. Get good shocks/struts with the springs, and maybe try to find a decent set of used lowering springs before cutting, the wanted section here turns up some great stuff. Does that car have a rear swaybar? Many 7xx wagons did not. A 960 sedan rear bar is a nice cheap upgrade.
The code you are getting could apply to almost anything in the air/fuel system. I don't think 1990 falls into the biodegradeable wiring harness problem, but look at the wires wherever crud can gather on them. I had a problem most noticeable directly behind the timing belt cover, saw some wires with no insulation on them. Closer inspection showed that the fuel injector wiring had no insulation in some spots, and was only separated by oil and crud.
Good luck with the project!

This info about getting a rear sway is bad info 960 sedans were all irs. Any wagon 91 up will have a sway .You can get a sway from a 940 sedan or wagon

The O2 sensor also makes sense because of potential oil contamination from the turbo going out.

Your intermittent fueling issue sounds like a MAF problem to me. This car looks like it's really nice, you hardly ever see 760Tis around at least up by me.
