Anybody running that combination?

Talking bout a T5 with 2.95 1st and .63 5th.

Used the calculator and found the RPM with 25" tires was 2510 @ 65 mph. Seems decent enough for highway cruising to not warrant the cost of changing 5th .68 or .73.

This is for a NA b230 and likely NA B6304 down the road.

My wagon has a 0.68 T5 and 3.73 rear end. Cruises fine. I do have a turbo, though (and an IPD cam).

215R45 17 with a T5 0.68 5th and 3.73 automatic rear end. Cruises at 75-80 mph at 2600 rpm which is the same rpm as any around town speeds. Anything steeper than a gentle incline I am down shifting and going slower but I like it 28mpgs+ on the freeway 21mpg around hilly pacifica. NA power B-cam all the way!

Your are about to make me drive home and check my rear end and go T5z! LoL. I have not see 28mpg since I change my 87 to Ezk!

I do around 33 Avg Mpg without being careful. You know how?

That's heresy!
Quick! To the gallows!

It would be better with a tomato sandwich.

A MILLION!

More seriously, I just finished to swap a Toyota 8 inch in my 240 with an NA redblock...and 4.56 gear ratio. Will be finished by monday. Will keep you posted.

Lots of good feedback. Looking forward to reading more. Exciting times for you VincentG. Standingnby!

It's going to be fine.

My 242 had a b21ft and a k-cam. It was a .68 T5 - the WC V8. 3.73 rear end. Under 55 was not hill-friendly, but over 60ish and it was a great cruiser. It's also the best MPG I ever got in a redblock. I averaged 30mpg, all highway on a cruise from college to home. I've never been able to better it.

It's not quite apples to apples, but the extra displacement of the b230 will no-doubt help.

Thanks for sharing that. Got home last night and that Honda averaged 38 mpg hwy but fro me at 6' and 285 lbs. I done care for sub compacts. Friend around here say say I don't fit a volvo very well. Anyway, following to see how the 4.56 does but I need to check the gear in my red 242. Problem with me is, I can't seem to keep my foot out of it. Though I was passed all that!

A math calculation shows that a 0.63 OD with 4.56 final drive will put 70mph cruising rpm around 2700rpm with stock size tires...slightly lower than the 0.80 OD + 3.73 final drive of a 240T.

@photoman327...your 240T rear axle likely has a 3.73 final drive assuming it's a manual trans.

4.10 and .68 with 215/45/17's in the 140 nets around 2900-3k at 70. Cruises nice but it's a bit sluggish to pass someone or in the hills, with 130rwhp of NA fury and no bewsts....yet.
Haven't done any mileage tests yet, but it's not terrible.

Thanks and I hope you are right but I will verify when I jack it up again. Need to check the dope and change it anyway. planning to use IPD turbo cam fight now It has a A cam.

Fix the blown head gasket on the 80 242 sometime this spring With the B21f M-45. More than likely to get the M-46 for the red 242 since the transmission is in great shape. Just hope the B21f has enough juice to handle it.

Allright.
The 4.56 with the Volvo tranny (OD 0.80) is a little bit of a pain on the highway.
Let's say you can't really cruise at 130km/h but around a 100 it's pretty civilised.
I have 185/70R14.

I will do a T5 swap eventually and I'm pretty sure it's going to be all right with the 0.68 OD.

By the way, 1st to 4th is really fun now.

Are you going for the Toyota axle, or are you planning to use something like this? :

yea I agree, a 0.80 OD with a 4.56 final drive puts 70mph cruising rpm at around 3500rpm. That's about what it's like driving an M45 on the highway. :)

At the moment, I'm finding the value of a Volvo 4.10 and g80 out of a 7/9 hard to resist. If I swap it'll be what ever comes first in Toy or Ford flavors.
