Svea - 1968 220 -

Well I picked up a new tablet that has onboard GPS

So I now have a working speedometer, just got to figure out the ADC's for oil pressure and fuel level, so thats in the works.
And I got this done, now I just need to make the forms for the countertops
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9M6uoq2GqnQMXBSRDR3SmJkcFk/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>
and I picked up these on Saturday. Recaro LX-C out of an 80s mustang pace car. Only 3 rips, one pingpong ball sized hole of foam missing, but they should recover nicely.
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9M6uoq2GqnQUklOSUxHblNEX0k/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>
so I spent a couple hours and bolted them down to the stock sliders, Just needed to slot 2 holes.

Alright, well some new things in the works. After some heavy testing I have started working out a tablet mount. This is ASUS MEMO+Volvo122 v1.0

And I may just find a neat LED bar gauge for oil pressure and fuel level to put on either side.

Yeah, theres actually a V2.0 in the works for the cluster. And a center dash/console dealie with modern radio, launch control switch, aux fan switch, aux power, and for the moment my oil pressure gauge.

Look forward to seeing what you do for the center. I have a few rough ideas, but no idea how it will turn out. Good luck!

Thanks,

This weekend I have a fair amount of time to work on the car. So I started refabbing the downpipe to mate up to the angled flange 3" outlet.

I was hoping that the angled flange would kick it up a little bit for some suspension clearance, but thats what pie cuts are for right.
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9M6uoq2GqnQUHBBNXdGeVA1V0E/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>
Then I had to get from A to B... That was fun
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9M6uoq2GqnQZ1JYbEptc2RuTFE/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9M6uoq2GqnQQXRQZHdLd293cGc/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>
still gave me ample firewall clearance and 02 Sensor cearance.
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9M6uoq2GqnQLWpOb0dXeWlFQzg/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>
and with the intake mocked up, theres still a bit of space, so thats pretty good.
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9M6uoq2GqnQNEJCTzBXN0hRZzQ/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9M6uoq2GqnQWFpiMnA3TGdla0k/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>
and some chitty welds. Theyre not very photogenic, but they look a lot better in person.

Yeah you did.... Who care's if the welds don't look good. At least you can weld. Haha. Are going to powder coat the exhaust or wrap it?

Thanks,

It's going to get painted for now. I'm pondering a tube header and that will get ceramic coated along with a new down pipe if I ever get around to making it.

LOL - we all have "get around to it" lists, what you built will be better than what you had so do it when you have more time.

Thanks guys.

Exactly. Once I can get my house sorted I'll have more time to really get some stuff done. Luckily for me, the only major renovations are nearly done. So this fall/winter should be pretty productive on the car.

Last night I started teardown as I suspected a blown HG. Hydrocarbon analysis of my coolant was pretty clear that something had popped. I found that the waterjacket and fire ring at cyl4 were a little buggered, not completely blown, and the pistons were nicely carboned up, not super clean as I would have thought. So I guess no coolant was getting to the chamber, but the pressure/heat transfer was overpowering the coolant pressure. So I picked up a cometic HG and an old friend is getting me a valve spring compressor. So I'm going to tackle the port clean up and maybe a little valve deshrouding this weekend.

Not fun at all. Good luck!

Thanks,

No, but I'm able to do some porting while I'm in there. I shoulda torqued my head studs and relieved them a few times before beating on it so much. Live, learn, break sh!t

It's all part of the process, I'm not too upset about it. I was able to touch up my porting, but for some reason my phone was acting up and I was in too much of a hurry to figure it out so I dont have any pics of the new work on the ports. Basically I carved out the ridge behinde the exhaust valves and blended them as far as I could into the runners. My rotozip and stones couldnt reach the area around the guide, so I went in through the runner and got as close as I could. Then I rounded the spot around the spark plug and gained a few cc's, and then I deshrouded the exhaust valve pretty heavily, overall I gained 5cc's per chamber.

The cometic head gasket, being a multi layer gasket, is better for higher pressures in any motor really. Mostly because they dont crush, they actually have beads rolled in the steel to creat the fire ring and water/oil jackets. These beads unroll a little under compression and if the head lifts slightly due to overpressure, or a little headbolt stretch the beads just rolll back to keep a positive seal.

Thanks for the info - Will get one when the head is off this winter and I machine it for hard seats and go thru it.

Head is back on, torqued and relieved three times to ensure the head studs are stretched as far as they will. Exhaust manifold is back on, the to do list is:

Turbo - oil feed, drain, coolant lines
Downpipe
Intake - install throttle blade, vac ports, TPS, linkage
IC plumbing
PCV lines
fill coolant
change oil
check/recheck valve adjustment

Edit:
Gotta remake Launch control clutch switch bracket
paint/reinstall heater, control valve, and lines
clean engine bay
Install new H4 headlights

Before the show:
fab/instal new dash
fab install new turn signals

I've only got 10 days until the annual local cruise/car show/1/8th mile drags. Hoping to have this back together by Friday night, and that will give me a week to get some shake downs in and work out any other bugs.

So tonight is to double check all those and then
install IC plumbing
Install PCV lines
Fill coolant
and change oil
and if theres time tonight I'll check and adjust the lifters

Maybe if its not too late, I'll fire it up!
