Pig: '79 242 16vT

15* base timing advance. Still runs weird at less than 20 degrees.

Could be several things:

O2 sensor (stays in stoich pretty inconsistently...)
ECT wiring (as above...)
Failing power stage

All other IOs seem to be working properly.

Thanks for the kind words!

Ken, it's a BB turbo; pre-production GTX2860R with a teensy bit smaller compressor wheel. Going to use a .64 AR Ford/Volvo style turbine housing with an ATP wastegate. Exhaust will be 3" to the cat, then reduce to the TME 2.5" tubes currently in it. Really hoping the transition/spool is close to the TD04HL units I am used to.

It's unavailable for this turbo. Woulda done that otherwise. My first choice would have been the original Garrett T25 housing but i need to get the downpipe sitch sorted before I swap turbos so it's just a matter of bolting it on

Little update. We had some perfect weather for car washing over the weekend (60 degrees, partly overcast), so I took advantage to wash, clay, and seal the TSX and the 242. Oh, and some parts are on their way. Thanks to George at ATP and Duder for their continued support of my bad habits!

Visually? I'm thinking of spacing the front wheels another 15-20mm and to use 86+ front mudflaps as the old style ones broke off. Derp.

Visually and mechanically. I haven't seen it in person but based on the pics in this thread, no. To the untrained eye it could almost pass for factory under the hood, which I really like. The weird colored engine bay paint that seems to be trending lately isn't my cup of gravy.

Did you have the protrusion milled flat? That looks like a pen mark...

That should free up some exhaust flow. I need to do that to mine too.

I belt sanded it flat. That ring is the base of the portrusion. Don't feel industrious enough to erase it altogether :e-shrug:

Current manifold is mated to the TB03 using an adaptor plate which is not what one would call ideal.

Maybe I'll just install as is. Good enough for government work ;-)

So it's been a year since I took ownership of this car. Neat.

Anyway, manifold did not come perfectly flat. I will give it another shot at home, and if it still doesn't work I'll give up and pay a machine shop to hot tank it and mill it for me. Crandandall helped me with the crack weldage along with some other minor intake tube nipple welds.

Anyway, pics of the process:
