Hello All!

First Post, so here goes.

I have been a volvo enthusiast for a while now. My daily is a V70R and I have been tinkering with a neglected 244. For the past few months, I noticed a 242 in the apartment complex near by. I finally decided to leave a note on it with my number. Less than a week later it's mine.

It was purchased new from a regional dealership chain and has been dealer maintained for the longest time. Around 2008, the couple that bought traded it in. The dealership kept it inside as a floor demo! Sometimes, you can still see where it says "demo only not 4 sale" from the residue on the side windows.

Anyways, years later, a tech buys it with intentions to flip it and I beat him to the punch. So far, he replaced the fuel tank, in tank pump and the inline pump under the car. It cranks and he did have it running through some sort of procedure involving starting fluid and jumping power directly to the inline fuel pump. He has also thrown the normal tune up parts like wires, plugs, cap, rotor, fuel pressure reg and maybe some other stuff. Currently the car will crank and will pop off of starter fluid but it smells super rich. Here are some pics and please feel free to throw anything out to get it running as it should.

Stage 0: I just want to get it running right, get the lights working
Stage .5: Tires. I'm not a big fan of big sidewalls. I'm thinking: AZENIS RT615K+ SIZE: 195/60R14
Stage 1: poly bushings, springs, Bilstein HDs, sway bars
Stage 2: cam?

Very cool, I'm guessing the guy who gave a 1 star review is the guy who missed out haha, although a tune up and new tires doesn't make a very exciting project thread. Looks awesome though, enjoy!
 
I updated my post to hopefully make this thread a little more interesting!

Since the car has been kept original for all these years, I want to honor that with subtle mods that make it fun.
 
Wow, nice survivor, awesome find. Have fun with the resurrection. Looks like Pat Dickman's "Badger" 242 with the primer stripes. That's a good thing!
 
Could be a bad ECU. The 1983-84 LH 2.0 ECUs are like the 1989-91 pink label LH 2.4 ECUs in that they sometimes go bad. Find a green label 510 ECU with the barcode (a replacement) and drop that in.

Re: rims and tires, a set of virgos with 195/60R15 tires would give you what you want without making the speedometer read higher than it already does.

Crazychopstick came over and wired the fuel pump the correct way. I swapped in a different ICU and the car started but still has a bumpy idle. I think it really just needs to be driven. I put some seafoam in the gas tank and now that I mention it, I'm not sure how old the gas is.

I also fixed the headlights. I used a late model headlight switch because I couldn't find a used old style switch and I don't want to pay $$ for one. I made a video here:
