Has anyone done a 4 link for the rear of a 740 to get rid of te weak stock suspension.

Kaplhenke Racing makes something interesting.

I have seen that. I would reinforce the stock piece before i did that. Its a nice piece but not spending over $500 on it.

That needs more pictures to tell what is going on. Would be nice to see it bolted to the car.

I have an explorer 8.8 that I will be putting in. I am pretty sure the stock rear end will not hold up to around 400 whp and slicks.

A guy I know is doing the 4 link on his 740. In order to do it properly the tank has to be replaced with a fuel cell because it would be in the way otherwise.

That's what I was wondering about. I really don't want to replace the fuel tank as this is going to be my summer daily.

Only other option I can suggest is swapping a mk1 Irs from a 960 sedan. A few people have done it. All the points are there 89 + with the exception of one. But it’s a mod that if you do it you can’t really go back.

I have no desire to go IRS. Everything about IRS gets very expensive when stuff starts to break and you have to get better half shafts, stub shafts and center section. Been there done that.

iirc nathan had an 8.8 in his car, not irs. he did a number of things with the rear suspension though.

so it all depends on what you're doing relative to what you need. a reinforced subframe and adjustable torque rods will go a looonng way. if you've got something with say.. v8 torque and sticky tires, you'll want to do some chassis reinforcements where the trailing arms attach, and probably upgrade the trailing arms. On a 7/9, the fuel tank is really kind of in the way, swapping to a spare tire well fuel tank would help the situation a lot.

John Dega had a V8 swapped 740 in One Lap of America a while back. He had a Ford 8.8, with a single ladder setup. I just have this one photo, and no more info. But it may give you some ideas.

That's a torque arm style suspension. Commonly found on 3rd and 4th gen Camaro's. Pretty cool to see under a volvo, looks like a fox body 8.8 axle too.
