The Beige Bounce Back - Vol242vo's 242

Dam, you have a lot of patience! But I get how that could be kinda fun...I bet a lot of people have considered this and realized they can not follow through, I'm one of them hahaha.

I’ll be listing these Charcoal seat skins soon, sourced an exciting set....update coming.

Pm me if you’re interested in them.

And the reason for replacing a beautiful set of Charcoals...These were one of those 'fell into my lap' deals. No head rests however, I've always wanted to modify a set to accept the stock Volvo headrests. So I'll use the rails and headrests from the set I'm getting rid of.

A la Recaro LX-B seats in remarkable condition, perfect color and exactly what I was dreaming for...

Yeah I'm excited to get them in, took the stock seats out last night (in the snow) and I can't believe the weight difference...I mocked the headrests up and I don't think it's going to take much to get them to work in the recaros. I'll update with pictures soon.

Recaro clean up

I dismantled the Recaros to shampoo and vacuum them thoroughly, they were already pretty clean but I couldn’t resist. The drivers side lower bolster, on the outside, needs replaced. I have some high density foam and will attempt to make the piece myself to save some money and for the challenge.

Threw the Volvo headrest on for ****s and giggles, I actually like the idea, just need to cut them down, heat and bend the guides a little.

Love the headrest. I might have to steal that idea whenever I'm cool enough for aftermarket seats lol

Please do. I know what you mean, I?ve been wanting a set of these for years but the ones that popped up in my area were anywhere from $500 to $1000...

Pulled a really nice Nissen radiator from a ‘93 244 and an E Fan and relay from a ‘98 V90. Had to trim down the housing to get it to mate the radiator properly. Should work nicely and help accomplish the shaved look I’m shooting for.

Finally found a black piece of rear carpet...insane how long this took to find, I’d estimate 30 244/245s before landing this.

Great build so far! I love the idea of using the stock headrests on the recaros, can't wait to see how that turns out! Great job on the ARE 398's as well, those barrels look sharp! What tires are you going with? I have the exact same wheel (16x9.5), but in 5x120. Tire selection is not the greatest, but 245/45 can be had (priciest option) as well as 245/50 (although that might be too much sidewall). There are plenty of 225 series sizes to choose from at good prices, but I haven't decided if it would be too much stretch. I am probably overthinking it...

Good idea on the seats! That's gonna look great.

Thank you, headed to Seattle this weekend for another soccer weekend, hoping to put some time in next week!

Volvo headrests are too iconic not to in my opinion, Lol, thank you. Tires are getting tough in 16s...stinks. I think I?m set on making 245/45s work, 225 would be too much stretch for my liking. However, I don?t like any stretch, I like the tires squared up with the rims, if not a little rubber out to protect the lips.

Love the headrest! I wouldn't mind doing these for mine but I haven't even gotten mine installed yet.

Do it!

Bolster rebuild

Not perfect, not terrible but it was free...

After searching eBay and the interwebs for a replacement bolster, I decided to attempt to make the replacement myself before forking over $70-$80. I used the foam from my seats when I sold the covers, and the old and beaten one as a template. Not having a hot knife or electric meat slicer, the next best thing was a fine tooth hacksaw blade. I was in a zone and didn’t get too many step by step pictures but you get the idea.

Another hour of trimming from this before it fit and looked decent...

ummm thats like perfect. brilliant craftmanship

Thanks!

I modified the headrest posts and now they fit in perfectly. Super stoked with the results, now I just need to weld the Volvo seat rails to these frames and they?re done. Then back to work on the manifold...this was an unexpected side project.
