Back in september, I installed a getrag in my 940. It came with the bmw shifter/arm and almost every bushing were worn out. I installed it that way anyway but I was really unhappy with the result. I measured a 6.5" movement between the first and the second gear. I thought that 3" from one speed to the other would be great. I also thought it would be nice to adjust it to the lenght i'm comfortable with. And it's a good chance that I had this second idea, cause 3" from 1 spot to the other is shorter than I thought!

Anyway here is the pic! Thanks to my friend who tig welded all the parts for me

I've spaced up the pivot point 1.5" to give me some play, I'm affraid of touching the drive-shaft

The shift link is now adjustable in lenght, and I made a keyway to be sure it wont move

And now to find a shift boot that will cover all that work...

Enjoy!

Very nice, did you ever try the E36 M3 shifter? Much shorter throws than the earlier ones. props

No I didn't, but I hope the throw are smaller on sport model coz the one I got had a lot of play between each speed, far away of what I call a sport feeling! For a 0$ project it turn out really good :-P

thats sick man, i want to get a getrag for my 240 and do something like that.

You may take a look at this thread I posted a while ago.

Forgot I posted that!

Awesome work there mate, nice job.

i also love the 1 piece stick and ball

Thanks! But it isn't a one piece, the shift ball is screwed on the stick just like yours. There's a small groove for holding a shift boot, at the end only the shift knob should be visible.

My friend found this website with several shift knob available in a bunch of color. Full of idea for future shift knobs!
