SOOOO the paint on the hood of my car is staring to fade/crack/look like butt. Because of this, I have been entertaining the idea of painting it/vinyl wrapping it in matte silver. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to best pull this off?

here is my car:

edit/ I searched "matte paint" and didn't come up with any relavent threads, so please do not tell me to "search"

Also, this is the color I am going for:

new haven eh? ever seen my R rolling around? i live by Delany's

i painted my old 240 in a white matte paint(rattle canned then buffed down with steel wool). it was pretty awsome when it was done.. check the pics in my sig but i dont think the pics do any justice to how it really looked.

please please please paint it, vinyl makes me go crazy, its for rice guys.

I figured ninyl may be a bit easier, plus, it isn't rice if nobody knows it's vinyl :ninja:

Yeah I live in Hamden, but i figured most people on here would recognize New Haven a little more readily. What year/model is your R? I may have seen it. Why haven't you come to any meets? Check out the "CT weekly meet idea" thread in events.
edit// I just saw a pic in the "post pics of your volvo" thread, I don't know if I recognize it or not, I feel like I would b/c of the trays but idunno...

I was considering doing it that way. I have also thought about

Matte paint
silver w/ matte clearcoat
and the vinyl idea
anybody have advice/know which would be the easiest to not screw up?

you still hate vinyl wrap?

yeah that's what I was thinking. I jujst don't know whether it would be btter to paint it or wrap it. I feel like wrap would be easier, but maybe more expensive.

yeah i guess.

so what's the best way to go about painting a matte color. I'm thinkng sand the hood down, throw down some gray primer, then silver (matte, or reg. + sand/brillo?), and do matte clearcoats work?
