so a fellow AZ volvo member came over for me to build him something better than his current exhaust system(stock downpipe cut off before the cat and that's it!!!). so we went to work throwing together a 3" 'system' for him. some of you might remember the 850 here w/ the VMS engine ... well this is him.

and now more pics than you want to see

current engine bay setup, notice the much smaller IC piping than that 3" stuff before

this is the flange we threw together from a few extra random parts he had, came on pretty good in my book as he also loved it for what he paid

which tuned into this after an hour or so of guessing and cutting and some tack welds till we got it right, also that's how ghetto people cool down hot exhaust pipes http://www.hardcars.com/thepriestmike/exhaust850_4364.JPG

here's the final product welded up on the car

his original plan was just 3" pipe straight back and then dumping @ the rear axle. well i happen to of had this muffler laying around new in the box and recommeded we throw it on.

so we fit it the only place we could
exhaust850_4354.JPG

here's the outlet on the downpipe once we were done cutting and re welding it as he decided he wanted it to dump asap since there was a muffler on it just for the heck of it so we did(notice the lack of having all the bends we needed to make the pipe perfect) http://www.hardcars.com/thepriestmike/exhaust850_4355.JPG

so in the end this is your full exhaust system for a 850 made for drag racing that needs to drive a little on the street
exhaust850_4352.JPG

and yes we did make a temp bracket for it so all that weight wasn't on the downpipe flange tho all of that still weight less than the stock cat so

some might ask about ground clearance so hows this

so this is pretty much what a full on drag car should about look like (sans the cage)

there are many more pictures on the server so

http://www.hardcars.com/thepriestmike/?M=D and the ones near the top should be the newest i've uploaded so all those exhaust850 ones are it

here's a 1.9 meg video of the first start up w/ it all welded and fit up

yes it runs way to rich w/ whatever size injectors he has as he needs to get his 3 bar back in and we need to find that vac leak(we think its the TB as he didn't use a new gasket when he went to the n/a TB(mucho larger) but the car does run pretty rough as it still has the stock ECU. in the next few months he is moving out to wherever VMS is to work and live out there where they will custom tune and setup the ECU and what not and throw in a cage and make it a full on true drag car but for now we are doing the cheap and easy prep work

so there ya go ...

no idea on power

last run was 15.0@98mph ... laggy as crap and that 2.25 stock crappy downpipe hurt it bad. plus stock ECU, big injectors and 4 bar fpr(needs to go back to 3 bar)

but according to him from the drive home its ass loads faster ... spins the tires now when boost comes on ... highway it just gets up and is gone

It runs rich and idles like crap becuase you are using the stock ECU. If you remove the cat off of these cars and leave in the stock engine management system, something changes and it throws all of the settings off. I found that out the hard way on my 850 when (somehow?) the test port plug fell out.
