Sure, any component can fail with engine heat. Crank sensors are known to be bad right out of the box.

Consider swapping in a new powerstage and put the right grease on the backplate.

A weak point is the fuse holder at the battery. The holder melts/corrodes= entire EFI is DEAD

What is the resistance on the old and new sensor?

Edit- I see you had spark. That rules out an open circuit on the sensor.
