242 Is back on the road, been too long without it

The poly transmission mount was a bust, way to much vibration at idle. The car sat for two weeks, but is back on the road as of Friday. For the 4th attempt at T5 transmission mounts I used a m46 HD mount and bracket, with a stock M46 cross member. Seems like a good middle ground between firmer then the mustang mount and smoother then the poly mount. With the new mount and driveshaft I was able to raise the rear of the transmission, bringing it closer to -3?, then setting the pinion to -1?, much smoother at any speed/load then before.

Drove it about 300 miles this weekend, loved every second of it

In the Rubixcar? It's got the same coleman shaft you recommend me right? I bet the motor/transmission angle is better with a redblock, depending on cross member choice I guess.

I'm fighting around the motor mounts I made for the swap, was not expecting to have this low of a ride height when I built them.

You could get a flex pipe and go over budget, get given penalty laps but enjoy smoother decel.

The whiteblock is what complicates things, next swap I'll know this stuff beforehand and measure things up better before welding. This car has been a great learning experience.

I've been fixing/driving my 76 245 for the last week so I wanted to hop back in this after going slow that whole time.

Started with flat towing a molested 244 that broke down in sac back to davis
<a href="https://ibb.co/C95ztNs"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/fNY2SBG/PXL-20210523-071325681-MP.jpg" alt="PXL-20210523-071325681-MP" border="0"></a>

Few days before switching (last week) I was showing a G35 that cutting his mufflers off didn't make him fast, after taking my exit I noticed the idle was a little rough. Today found the culprit, brake booster vacuum source on the ME7 intake sits in the rear, after rebuilding the drivers mount it pretty much touched the firewall, tearing the hose.

<a href="https://ibb.co/mb7Xdwr"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/wB1w8XZ/PXL-20210525-021746243.jpg" alt="PXL-20210525-021746243" border="0"></a>

Cutting off the nipple and tapping the fitting for a smaller Russian (well probably Chinese) nesting fitting solved the clearance issue. Hose looks a little better then before, but I may route it under the booster and in on the fender side to clean up the intake/firewall area where most of my wiring is routed

I also installed a different wheel I picked up yesterday in place of my pretty beat up Volvo Roma, wish it was Rsport branded but it's the same thing and in pretty nice shape.

<a href="https://ibb.co/nm5x3sh"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/wgx5JND/PXL-20210525-024806920.jpg" alt="PXL-20210525-024806920" border="0"></a>

After driving a well modified 850 this weekend I gotta change up the exhaust at some point, way more burble potential in a 5 cylinder

Changed from the 5x120 spacers I had been running to the correct 5x4.75 (120.65). If you look really close you still can't see the difference, but seating the wheel is much easier now, and no more steering vibration at highway speeds.

<a href="https://ibb.co/zS8sLkh"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/30f18Jy/PXL-20210612-215301262.jpg" alt="PXL-20210612-215301262" border="0"></a>

Also rebalanced the wheels, pretty good before but now nearly perfect, was a good opportunity to mess with getting it smooth with the least amount of weight possible

You in your 245? If I had seen it I would have taken the exit and waved myself.

Must have seen me a few hours after this
<a href="https://ibb.co/8mPfbnz"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/mRh20rv/PXL-20210619-221358399.jpg" alt="PXL-20210619-221358399" border="0"></a>

Sputtered to a stop 3 times, had to cut my trip to Tahoe short. Every time it would take ~15 minutes of sitting before it would fire up again, then like a light switch it was back on. Seems cleaning the connection at the 850 main EFI relay cured it. If you saw me between 5-6pm I was probably trying to hold it in boost in 5h to confirm the repair.

Also locked me keys (and water, and screwdriver) in the car while trying to fix it. Got the rear window out with a dime

<a href="https://ibb.co/8bPfQjd"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/DYwvj78/PXL-20210619-230834385.jpg" alt="PXL-20210619-230834385" border="0"></a>

The one upside is it was a good push to rewire the OBDII port and clean up some of the ignition harness. After scanning the codes it only spit back ones I was expecting, seems like the main relay was (hopefully) the culprit.

I still gotta see your TDwagon, my Om606 swap is going to be on hold with classes coming back soon, but that thing looks absolutely perfect in your engine bay

Time for a 5x4.75 spare

T5^2. I love that. Not gonna lie I like the way this car looks even on the side of the highway

Was able to get the spare on, but it's got was less thread engagement then ide like, will be finding a 5x4.75 spare soon. Plan was to take it down to Santa Cruz for the weekend but looks like we'll have to take her 245 instead

No idea what I ran over, nothing left in the tire but quite a hole

<a href="https://ibb.co/fNXjvrV"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/4SFhd4w/PXL-20210709-213349346.jpg" alt="PXL-20210709-213349346" border="0"></a>

Had to keep on the road through a highway interchange so the tire is toast, probably best not to rock a 26+ year old spare 200 miles

Dang dude.
Its just your wagon saying keep me, keep me lol.

Which one? I've got 6 245s now:omg:

I've been flip flopping between holset on the B230ft (have the parts) or OM606 swap (have most of the parts) on my OG wagon, then I remember I have classes coming back in a month and really shouldn't tear apart another car.

Got the new tire on, man it's nice to drive this car again, even a week without it and I get withdrawals

<a href="https://ibb.co/fGJHdxj"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/vv9k4j0/PXL-20210718-014900628.jpg" alt="PXL-20210718-014900628" border="0"></a>

This sucker also arrived, E36 (M50/S52 ect) Chinesium turbo manifold, actually very well constructed. I've read previously that the ports match up, and confirmed it with a gasket a while back. Gotta find a whiteblock head to mock it up on, likely cut off runner #6 and fill/redrill the mounting holes.

<a href="https://ibb.co/yg4FwTV"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/0YsygNQ/PXL-20210714-012959248.jpg" alt="PXL-20210714-012959248" border="0"></a>

Plan is to rebuild the TD06-20g that killed my first redblock and install it, may force myself to get Hbeam rods and shim the deck to avoid having the turbo kill another motor

I cleared my cookies and now none of the photos load for me, if the issue exists for others let me know.

I did none of the stuff I was hoping to do last year. Only update is a Kjet turbo airbox and intake hose instead of a purple cone filter. Mostly just drove the car around until I bought an Amazon, then drove that around. Past few months I've been driving this on and off but after experiencing an actually fast 240 it's time to polish my turd

Most recent issue was a nice coolant leak from a vacuum cap on the thermostat housing and misfire on #5, replaced the cap and repaired the ECU (again) and it's mostly better.

Found the ME7? thermostat housing I snagged nears ago, might finally remove the capped of barb and add a temp sensor for the dash. Tuneup this afternoon and it seems like it needed it.

Piles of other parts laying around but I won't talk about those unless I actually do any of it this time.

Glad the only 850 owner left on earth chimed in.

Give me a part number for Bosch plugs without resisters for COP and I'll have them installed by the end of the week

Since being bullied by some P80 owning looser I've only done a little to the 242 besides drive it, change the oil once and raise the rear suspension (that has rubbed for 2 years)
Mounted a hitch since I thought I was going to drive it 1200 miles to tow another POS RWD volvo home, but rain+R888R up and down a maintain didn't seem fun so I used the 84 245.

For the last few weeks my brother (normally a BMW guy, so you can guess why he needed a car) has had it, today he pulled up sounding a little louder than normal.

I guess the mounts came off on the cosway between the Sac Airport and Woodland (same place I melted a hole in my first +t), broke the V band and got completely flattened by a semi truck. Glad it slid instead of flipped, defiantly a reminder to check those mounts.

I've thought it was a touch too quite with the 12589 magnaflow (biggest 3" oval one they make) for a while, so I guess this is a good excuse to replace it. While it's on the lift tomorrow I'm telling myself I need to put the axle I build up for it, and Gary's old 2 piece driveshaft (better pinion angles maybe) in.

Terrible pictures because I was all over the place and forgot to take many

Axle is in, now a 4:10 with a truetrac and BNE trailing arm bearings to replace the stock parts. Put in the 25mm rear bar over the 21(?)mm one I had in there, along with a two piece driveshaft.

Had to knock the larger front slip yoke off for clearance issues, would have helped with the T5 vibration I've been told but no dice

Exhaust is fixed, although I only had a 2.5" muffler laying around, I'll probably pick up the next 3" one I see come up at a good deal. Also took the hitch off and reinstalled the rear facia panel, looks much nicer without the muffler visible IMO.

Overall very happy with the install, both tires spin (very easily) and it goes sideways with minimal effort in the rain.

Maybe I'll get around to painting the hood in 2023, or the spray cans will sit on the shelf for another year

Right around Davis 2022 I installed a Kjet turbo airbox in place of the come filter that came from the donor 850r. Today I finally got around to putting a filter in the housing. I'm so sorry poor whiteblock for all the dust you have ingested in that time

I really like the OEM look of the airbox and cobra hose, although I didn't make the connection between the maf and turbo look as nice as I'd like, hence the camera angle covering it
