bought a 87' 240 about a month ago drive well the main issue is the speedometer.

when the car starts it doesn't work but if i go over the 'right' bump it starts working till the end of the drive

still waiting for my manual to arrive so its a bit hard to diagnose.
 
I had this and just fixed it a couple weeks ago. For me, the solder joints somewhere in the speedo were bad/cracked, so I just got a cheap $15 soldering iron kit and resoldered every joint I could find in the speedo cluster. Now it works perfectly.

I had a 740 that did this. Literally I would smack the dashboard and it would work for an entire day.
 
Have you pulled out the cluster and checked the solder joints? Mine didn't look bad, but ended up being the problem. You might be able to find actual cracked joints.
