1970 1800E Driver Restoration

Finally some progress on the body shop front. In the process of finding a good match for the original paint.

I had crappy luck getting the Volvo red for an Amazon matched locally. It took 2 scans before they got close to it and even then it wasn't perfect.

Great to see such progress on the bodywork, I love the lines of these cars. They're perfect.

Just found the VP paint page, thanks for alerting me to it (pretty well hidden IMO):

http://www.vp-autoparts.com/zf0001_dokument/fargkod_volvo_en.pdf

The depiction of the 46 Red there is definitely way off what was originally on my car (much too light). I'm going by the paint on the underside of the trunk lid that was never repainted.

Appreciate the lead though!

Call Mattias at VP and see if they have color chips. Color scans on your monitor may not be the actual color.

Went to look at three more paint samples; they got a perfect match this time. Happily the underside the trunk had never been re-sprayed so we had a good original color sample to work off of and the one I selected was a dead-on match in natural daylight.

It was in the 60s and the shop doors were open so I too the opportunity to take 2 more photos of current state of the project.

Body shop is doing final fitting of panels before paint. Should be ready to begin reassembly in January.

Engine is out for rebuild with Hi Performance.

In the process of gathering parts for reassembly....what started out as a "fix as you go" daily driver concept has now obviously ballooned and cosmetic parts that I thought I was going to reuse are not going to cut it....

That is a road well travelled!
I was going to rebuild my suspension on my 142......
Glad to hear you getting ready for paint. Can't wait to see the pics!

Painting has begun. Trunk and engine compartment are in color/clear:

Focused on detailing engine bay parts. On the fuel rail I wasn't sure whether it should be painted red or what looked like anodized; one 1970 1800E brochure shows it red, the other gold.

Turns out it isn't anodized, but shiny new brass....

After a soak in vinegar, brushing, and polishing with 0000 steel wool:
