For anyone curious while I had my engines out I weighed them to see how much heavier the 6 cylinder whiteblock is than the redblock. The B230F w/ AW70 weighed 509lbs and the B6304FS w/ AW30-40 transmission weighed 619lbs. Both engines were complete with accessories and wiring harnesses. The B6304FS came out of a 1998 960 and the B230F came out of a 1989 245.

b230f engine with intake and exhaust manifold is ~275lbs if I remember correctly. Measured with the blue version of that digital scale.

I did some more weighing

I weighed my B23F w/ LH2.4 stuff and M47 with about a quart of oil in it and it all weighed 469.2lbs

I didn't pull the transmissions off the engines I weighed but I did weigh some spare transmissions I have.
The 960 AW30-40LE transmission without the torque converter and no fluid weighed 127lbs on my bathroom scale.
The AW71 without the torque converter and no fluid weighed 116lbs and the torque converter with some fluid weighed 23.6lbs

Assuming the AW71 and AW30-40 torque converters have similar weights that means the 960 transmission with torque converter should weigh around 151lbs so the 960 engine by itself should weigh around 470lbs. With the same math and assuming the AW70 and AW71 are similar weights the redblock should weigh around 370lbs. So overall it looks like the 6 cylinder whiteblock weighs around 100lbs more than a NA 8v redblock.

Would love to see the engine weights alone. You may not be seperating the trans though.
Just for you I pulled my engine and trans and weighed the engine alone. I got 456 pounds for the engine by itself with 1 exhaust manifold, all accessories, and the torque converter still on. It's definitely not a light engine

For anyone curious while I had my engines out I weighed them to see how much heavier the 6 cylinder whiteblock is than the redblock. The B230F w/ AW70 weighed 231 kg and the B6304FS w/ AW30-40 transmission weighed 281 kg. Both engines were complete with accessories and wiring harnesses. The B6304FS came out of a 1998 960 and the B230F came out of a 1989 245.

Metric figures converted and inserted for us strange foreigners who only know pounds as British money.

Sadly, the US is one of 3 nations on earth still using the antiquated imperial units. Whilst nearly everything machine related built in the US is now metric, our politicians refuse to open their eyes and change. Perhaps the next generation will fix this finally? The boomers (myself included) never will.

I always told our Engineers and Maint. Techs that "Metric is Standard".... a little wordplay that Americans should understand.
