Would an 86 740 come with an M90?

I thought M90's came about in the 90's sometime? Is it at all possible that a stock non-turbo 740 would have one? Or is it just another M47......

M46 to ~88 in 700s, even N/A. N/A 8V 88+ M47 700s are crazy rare.
If you wanted cheap and a hipermiler, you usually bought a 240.

M46 in 16V & 700Turbos & ~1987 & down. I wanna say <~.05% of 88+ 700 N/A 8V were M47, if that?

Most manual trans cars are pre 86/gas was more, traffic was less, wiring harnesses rotted, tons of electrical issues, headliners fell, plastic interior all self destructed, cheap trashy dirtbag 7/9 owners, all those cars died by now. Not quiet to drive with the windows down or foot vent open like a 240, pre 1993 940 the A/C probably doesn't work, headliner devils dust in the eyes, electrical gremlins.

& 700s with the ZF lockup converter auto-tragic were pretty fuel efficient (if it didn't die being revved in neutral on a smog test), or later AW-70L with the 4.10 gears and lockup crazy lazy shift points and crazy slow stall speed torque converter.

We never got M90, much less white block M90 for 960s....

I am putting a m90 in my 91 740SE sedan with billet steel flywheel. I'll toss a 3.31 G80 960 rear end in the rear. It's the last version ML2 with 35k on it. I took it all apart and took the mainshaft into Voltech and had Eric weld up the third gear stop ring back when he worked there for a bit after RSI.

Aren't we fancy.

Pretty sure an '86 740 with a stick would be an M46, not an M47.

Even an '86 240 would have one. M47 first came out in 1987 for the 240, then 1988 for the 740 in the North American markets. Obviously, the M47 was available a few years earlier in Europe, etc. 1983-85 240s over there even had a speedo drive equipped M47 with a normal driveshaft flange.
