nissan s14 coilovers for volvo 240

did this today heres a step by step if anyone is interested. I choose this route because its cheap and well cheap. it gives you a short strut setup for being low, adjustable dampening, adjustable preload, and adjustable ride height, I like those 4 things. so heres how to do it.

I left a nub to center it^^^

screwed the coilover out of the tube so I don't damage the strut with heat and tached tube in place

put coilover back in a bam done. just gotta drill a couple holes in strut tower for camber plates
 
travis, this setup is sketch as ****. no offense, but its just a bad idea....there is a reason the stock strut tube is swedged all the way into the knuckle and then plug welded...butt weldiing serious suspension components like that is just asking for **** to stress and break...easily.

I didnt want to be the one to say it.
 
it can be raised another 3 inches from pictures but right now its set the same as the coilovers on my car. and its not sketchy at all. maybe you don't know much about welding but its plenty strong. im still going to add gussets on the sides for extra safety.

asher no offense I appreciate your concern and I know your doing what you think is right but your lack of welding knowledge is showing. its not a butt joint its a T joint..which is stronger. and second I beveled the edge of the tube to make it a full penetration weld. its not going anywhere.

yup, volvo engineers who put thousands of hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars into chassis/suspension/safety design are completely wrong, they could have saved so much time by listening to the kid in his garage who has taken a community college welding class and bought himself a millermatic 140...

ahh I see why you think its a butt weld. the way I left that nub. it is NOT welded to that nub that nub is on the inside I just left it there to center the tube I welded on so I know its in the same place as factory and the same on both sides

how many engineering classes have you taken? zip zero...ask me the same question....i knows a thing or two.

lol your still gunna keep talking about things you don't know? yeah I took and still take welding classes at a college. I also work at a structural steel fabrication shop, im also a certified mig welder in various wires/gasses and oh did I meantion im certified on unlimited thickness because I took all those 1inch open groove plate test as well? don't talk **** when you don't know
 
with how weight is cantilevered out from the strut tube, the weld is going to crack and break on the backside over time and your suspension is going to collapse...putting yourself and other people in danger...killing yourself and/or other people is a bad thing..mmkkkk?

i have 3 years of university level mechanical engineering classes under my belt...just because you have a piece of paper that show you can weld whatever does not make you and engineer or a specialist in chassis/suspension design.

nice theory. funny thing about theory is ITS JUST THEORY.
