Default 240 turbo gauge lighting upgrade

So, it's been nearly a decade since I did anything Volvo related, but got the bug again last year and now have 4. I dont remember my old 240s having such hilariously dim cluster lights.

Has anyone done LEDs? Anyone know which bulb the cluster uses?

On my 82 turbo the cluster was very dim. Even with new bulbs it was too dim. The problem is fron the plastic light guide inside the cluster gets darker as the years go by. You can change to a newer cluster frame with the clear light guide the newer ones use or upgrade to led lighting.

I changed to the led lighting. I bought green leds on ebay. The turbo cluster uses a 168 bulb if I recall correctly and I just used the equivalent led. Now it's pretty good for how dark the light guide is inside the cluster.

I just talked to him, definitely talk to him first. Prices and knowledge are unbeatable. The LEDs won't fit in my 79 cluster. Its a Ba9s socket but the LED assembly are be too big to fit my cluster. Hit him up at https://www.wagonmeister.com/ , great guy, very helpful.

I only bought led for the main cluster. The small gauges in my turbo have been replaced with VDO Visiion cockpit gauges. They come with small booties for light color and are backlit.
