Apparently I registered for this site like 5 years ago and don't remember it lol I tried to register and it said my user name was already in use so I thought I'd try it.

Anywho, I live in Chattanooga, TN and have been checking out this 92 blue 240 not too far from me. It has high miles but it looks great. He says it's the original engine and not a swap, but it has a turbo on it, an itty bitty one. Since I'm unfamiliar with the cars, I've been looking at info on them and everything I've run across says the 92 240s didn't come with a turbo engine. Is it common to just turbocharge a factory na motors or have I misread and some actually did come factory turbocharged?

Welcome - you are correct that the later model 240s did not come turbocharged from the factory. In the US at least, the last factory turbo model year was 1985. So this '92 would've ben NA from the factory.

Among Volvo enthusiasts it is super common to add a turbo to the existing engine "+T" or do a complete engine swap from a turbocharged 240 or 700/900 series car. If I were buying a +T car I would want to take a good look at how the work was done, check quality of the components used, and check for leaks and general tidyness. Look at oil lines, water lines, charge plumbing, intercooler, air filter. Also ask how they handled tuning. 1992 uses the LH2.4 fuel injection and EZ116K ignition systems from Bosch. Both of these can be modified - chipped or tuned. It's also simple to swap the ECU and EZK units from a 740 or 940 factory turbo car. Also inquire about the fuel system - were upgrades done to the pump, injectors, FPR, anything else? Maybe most importantly, does the car give you a vibe that it was well maintained, before and after the +T?

Try to ignore the initial hazing that may happen here and you'll probably learn a lot. The cars are fun and the community around them is quirky but supportive.
