im sick of fighting with my '83 volvo 240's turbo k-jet...so ive decided to do an engine swap. im not sure what swap to do but i have ideas and id like your opinion on switch one sounds better or give me some ideas.

1). i just got an corvette engine(LT1) complete core with everything except the ecu for $800. transmission for about $500. what problems might i run into besides the engine mounts?

2). i have a friend who just totaled his volvo 850 glt. he said he would sell me the whole car for $500? i heard the 960 transmission bolts right up and i can get one of those for $300?

How about you megasquirt it and leave the engine in there? Is the GLT LPT? If so...it could make for a nice swap. Throw a bigger turbo on there and have at it.

ive heard about megasquirt but how much does it run $? im not sure if its the lpt or hpt. i know it has the 15g on it? but can u tell me more about megasquirt?

basicly a user programmable EFI (fuel only, fuel and spark or even spark only)...can be done for $300 to $500 depending on how many new or used parts you use

thanks, if i can do it for $500, it would be nice. ill check the site out now. but wouldnt it be nice to have a corvette engine in a volvo. ive seen it done in a video.

I got my setup from Kenny (Linuxman) and while, not installed yet, he did a fantastic job. I want to say I paid 375 bucks for mine. I am getting new injectors as well. You would need a FPR, injectors, the Megasquirt, injector connectors, a wideband (ideally), a coolant temp sensor (your factory one will most likely work), Intake Air Temp sensor (GM part for cheap), MAP sensor, maybe some sort of Crank Position sensor (Not sure about the ignition system on Kjetz cars). I figure if you do it right, you would probably be around 600 bucks and have a dynamite system. Talk to Kenny for specifics....he's the master.

BTW: You sure about the 15g? I thought GLTs only came with TD04-13g series turbos?

i put a 15g on his. he use to be a volvo nut until he got a FORD.

You got an LT1 sittin' around? Put that in your car. Bolt a T56 to it. Enjoy 27 mpg and the ability to destroy tires and egos.

I've just got a 302. Yours will be bigger than mine.

ive looked into the chevy 350 and i was about to do it UNTILL i thought of the LT1 in it.

Chevy 350, LT1, same differance, it's going to work and more money than you think it'll be....if serious about the V8, find a "jags that run" book and spend the $30 or so (google it)

I would say put the LT1 in it but dont go with a T-56 unless you are looking for alot of work!!!! I have a 350 with a T-56 and getting the trans to fit the tunnel was a challenge due to the size of the trans. I also had to modify the floor to move the shifter hole back like an inch and a half. It is possible but time consuming. The chevy is really pretty simple to put in but dont buy the JTR motor mount it a cheasy weak POS. Make a motor mount like this

With the stock LT1 and a good 700r4 or a T-5 the car would be fun and get like 20+ MPG as long as you dont drive WFO all the time like me:-D

if you actually want a car to drive and hate k-jet: just swap in LH2.2.

its basically an easy swap.

or you could acquire a more modern stand alone EMS.

otherwise: who cares, its probably going to take a year or years to complete the swap. and in the end it may deliver numbers or may always be slow and expensive.

My swap took me 2 months NOT YEARS and cost a little over $4000 total with the T-56 and everything. Swaps are not nearly as expensive as everybody will try to tell you. The key is to Bargain shop make lots of Wrecking yard runs and become good friends with Craigslist.

Anybody who takes years or even a year to do an engine swap probably shouldnt have attempted the swap in the first place.

well go drag race and/or tell me how fast your swap is.

4k is expensive.

edited: my 14.2 quarter mile cost me about $1000 in engine mods and then i made the car even faster.

edit: i helped my friend put an ls-1 in an rx-7. it took a summer and turned out relatively well. took about 6k total. still wasnt worth it in terms of the overall vehicle performance.

Fastest pass to date 7.50 @ 89mph on Street tires with welded Spider gears.:-P

1/8th?

that is pretty fast.

too bad a corvette LT-1 or whiteblock would probably take about that much money to go that fast even without the cost of the swap itself.
