I always mess this up. I end up with stripped threads on the adjuster bolts. My technique is, loosen the mounting bolts, then loosen the lock bolt for the adjuster, adjust the tension using the long bolt, tighten the mounting bolts, then tighten the adjuster lock bolt, then snug the long adjuster bolt. I'm definitely doing something wrong, because I can see the adjuster lock bolt pulling on the long adjuster bolt. Am I at fault or is this a design fault?

Think of the long M6 bolt as you do your floor jack. With the M8 lock bolt loose, use the jack bolt to achieve the desired belt tension, tighten the lock bolt, and you're done with the jack. You can even back out the jack bolt a turn or two. :)
