New to me '71 142

I had a 1971 142 back in 1979 that was near pristine condition. It had some chips in the paint where a snow chain cross link had broken and chipped the paint on the rear wheel well lip. That's it. After having one in that condition, it's hard to even consider most of the 142s I see for sale these days. I keep hoping for an estate sale, grandma's 1971 142E garage queen to appear near me. I'd rather pay $7K-$10K for an all original, immaculate 142 than spend $20-$25K trying to put a beaten DD back into that kind of condition. And no, after 25 years of restoring cars, I just don't get much of a thrill from working on them. :-P

No interior pic's, fail! Very cool car, its odd, I don't think I would like this color on any other type car, but on these it's perfect! I like the wheels, just don't like the color! Keep the wheels, paint them silver.

I like it. I'm with you about the wheels, they don't look "period correct" for my taste, but what do I know? Maybe some Minilite replicas or something, perhaps? Is that a bit of tinworm poking out in back of the right rear tire?

Nice purchase... welcome to the 140 club.

With regard to the wheels, I usually side with "to each his own", but in this case I'd ditch the wheels and go with something that looks like it "belongs" on the car. Widened steelies are usually the bomb in this case.

:-D

And have a 'spare' $2500 to play the 'new' 140 game.

FTFY.

When you own a 140, it's worse than a classic MOPAR. 5X the price it would cost for any other classic you might consider restoring.

:-D

That was just opening the can of worms / price of admission, not a finished car!

That's why I keep passing on them. I know all too well what it takes to get a car into the condition I want it in. It's like heroin, the first fix is free. What happens after that is the problem/addiction.

but the smile on your face when you throw the chair back and punch the throttle

I had that same ride. Bought it in Atlanta my last year of school. Drove it back and forth to SF twice and kept it for ten years. I had minilite 14s with 70s. I IPD'd it to the max with every performance part they had at that time. A real BMW 2002/Datsun 510 killer. I cried when it lost its life. That was my boy. I sold off the parts. The only part I kept was the manifold for the webers for some odd reason.

Glad to see you have it!

id like to see the black on the rear taillight panels closer up please

Funny you should mention that because I picked up a couple police interceptor steelies from MikeJr when I was down there. I would need adapters obviously but I might try them on to see how it looks.

I'll get some more pictures when it's light out. Maybe some interior shots as well.

:nono:

Gonna be h3ll@ poking the flu$h with 140 offset and adapted RWD wheels.

20et + 20et + 20mm for 205's = 60et of pokage.
