Default 244 wont rev

Hi,

I have 86y 244. Just installed b230ft from 740 91y with 2.4 wiring harness.
Car starts fine and idle is normal, but revs dont go over 1000rpm. Checked all vacum hoses and dont see any vacum leaks. Engine oil smells bit like fuel. Can it be fuel pressure regulator or something else?
Thanks for answering

Yes, it can be a regulator. I would at least check it by pulling the vacuum hose off and see if there is any fuel getting to the intake manifold from a leaky fuel pressure regulator. Do this with the engine off.

I would also check system pressure. To low a system pressure and the engine won't rev.

No leak from fuel pressure regulator vacum hose. How can i test system pressure? Btw all motor gaskets is brand new and all vacum hoses are too

Distributor can be off and the rotor can't make spark when you rev it up it advances the spark electronically and then there is too much of a gap between rotor and cap wire spot so it can't fire plugs. Turn distributor back a bit.

Or your fuel filter is real clogged.

How does the engine run when it plateaus at 1000 rpm?

Running well, jsut out of puff? Running rich and belching gassy fumes? Lean stumbles galore? Misfires everywhere?

Won't rev is commonly retarded ignition timing. Cam timing could be off too.

is the throttle actually opening at all? maybe you connected the cable to the cruise control section? no idea if that is possible
are all linkages connected to the throttle valve/axel?
